Introduction
 
In wet type casting production, the moisture content of the molding sand should be in a suitable state. The suitable moisture content of the molding sand is mainly affected by the amount of mud content. In addition to the mud content of the raw materials used, it is also necessary to consider the continuously generated mud during the casting process. For example, clay becomes dead clay after high-temperature exposure, and coal powder turns into ash after burning, which increases the mud content in the molding sand. This will change the original suitable moisture content of the molding sand. To facilitate mold removal, it is often necessary to increase the moisture content of the molding sand. All these factors cause the properties of the molding sand to change frequently in the production process, especially in large-scale production lines, it is more obvious.
The moisture content of the molding sand is very sensitive to the changes in the performance of the molding sand. If the moisture content is too high, the molding sand has poor fluidity, is not easy to compact, has low wet strength, and is prone to surface roughness, sand expansion, sand inclusion, burning, gas holes and other defects in the castings. Wet molding sand is also prone to stick to the sand and the hopper, causing difficulties in shaping. Conversely, if the moisture content is too low, the molding sand has poor toughness, difficult mold removal, and poor surface strength of the sand mold, and the castings are prone to sand washing and sand holes. Therefore, in the production process, the suitable moisture content of the molding sand must be correctly selected and controlled according to objective factors.
 
Working Principle
This drying device is controlled by a microcomputer and is used for rapid drying of sand samples (original sand, mold sand, and core sand) to determine the moisture content. It utilizes the infrared bulb to radiate heat energy, causing the moisture in the sand sample to evaporate quickly, and then the moisture content of the sand sample is calculated by weighing with a balance. Its structure mainly consists of the outer shell, infrared bulb, microcomputer timing system, switch, and other parts.
