The pycnometer method for determining the true density of powders is based on the Archimedes principle. The powder to be tested is immersed in a liquid that moistens it but does not dissolve it, and the air bubbles are removed by vacuuming. The true density of the powder to be tested can be calculated by finding the liquid of known density in a container of known capacity.
