Continuous Sand Clay Content Analyzer Sand Clay Content Measuring Instrument 

Introduction
This machine is a continuous sand washing machine capable of cleaning two samples simultaneously. By connecting a water source and controlling the water pressure and flow rate, it automatically cleans the samples until the water is clear, then releases the sand for drying and weighing to calculate the clay content. The process is time-efficient with high throughput. It is not only easy to operate but also capable of continuous automatic flushing, providing stable results and good outcomes. For certain used sands, if the siphon flushing method is used, it is time-consuming and cumbersome, taking at least 3-4 hours, while the continuous flushing method only takes 1-2 hours.
Clay content refers to the percentage of particles with a diameter less than 0.020mm in foundry virgin sand and used sand. In addition to clay, these fine particles also contain dust that does not have binding properties. If the clay content in green sand is too high, such as over 16%, it will reduce permeability, making the casting more prone to gas pores, and will also make the sand brittle, difficult to mold, and increase the appropriate moisture content. Too low clay content can lead to excessive permeability, resulting in reduced surface quality of the casting, and even sand adhesion.
For resin sand, clay content is particularly important (clay content <0.2%). If the virgin sand used has not been washed or
scrubbed, the clay content will be relatively high. This can reduce the strength of the binder's connecting bridges, increase the consumption of binders, and the gas emission of sand cores, which can adversely affect the castings.
 
Principle and Structure of Clay Content Determination
 
According to the national standard GB2684-2009-T, the particles with a diameter greater than 0.020mm in foundry virgin sand and used sand are considered sand, and those with a diameter less than 0.020mm are considered clay. The determination of clay content in virgin sand usually adopts the water washing method, which separates the clay based on the principle that sand and clay particles of different diameters settle at different speeds in water due to gravity. The continuous flushing principle involves tap water entering the bottom of the water washing bottle through a pressure reducing valve, control solenoid water valve, distribution shut-off switch, flow meter, etc., as shown in Figure 1. During the test, clean water is continuously fed into the water washing bottle, and the water flow continuously flushes the sand sample at the bottom of the bottle. The water flow rate is equal to the settling speed of the larger clay particles in clean water. In this way, sand particles with a diameter greater than 0.020mm settle in a certain flow rate of water, and clay particles with a diameter less than 0.020mm do not settle and are discharged with the water from the top of the washing bottle until the water above the sand sample is transparent.
