1.Use

A consistometer is an instrument used to determine the consistency of a viscous material by measuring the distance it flows under its own weight in a given time interval. This tool allows producers of viscous products such as jellies, preserves, sauces, etc. to predetermine recipes for their products and standardize production batches.
It is widely used in the food industry by producers of jams, jellies and other highly viscous products such as ketchup, tomato paste, tomato puree, condensed soups, cheese sauces, batters, cake mixes, gravies, sauces, baby food, salad dressings, frostings, fillings, frozen foods and ready meals, etc. (it is also used by paint, cosmetics and chemical manufacturers).
The consistometer is made of stainless steel
It consists of a trough divided into two parts by a gate. The smaller part serves as a reservoir for the material to be tested. The larger part is graduated in half-centimeter increments along the bottom starting from the gate.
The gate is spring-operated and held by a trigger that allows instantaneous release. In operation, the gate slides vertically in a groove in two posts extending upward from the sides of the trough.
An L-shaped trigger release hook hooks over the top of the door to hold it in the closed position. Two leveling screws are located at the reservoir end of the slot, and a circular level is located at the other end of the slot.

3.Operating Instructions

1. Place the consistency meter on a level surface and adjust the leveling screw until the bubble in the circular level is centered.
2. Close the door and hook the trigger release hook on the top.
The material to be tested should be prepared by keeping it at a constant temperature (usually 20 degrees Celsius or 69 degrees Fahrenheit) for several hours to ensure uniform temperature throughout.
1. Fill the reservoir behind the gate with the material to be tested, up to 100 ml, and level the top with a spatula or other straightedge. (Fig. 1)

When using a consistency meter, make sure the door is completely closed before filling the reservoir.
The reservoir should always be filled to the top.
2. Release the gate by pressing the lock release lever, (spring action ensures that it opens immediately). (Fig. 2)

3. At the same time, start the stopwatch.
4. At the end of the selected time period, determine how far the material has flowed along the trough. Take the maximum reading at the center of the trough and the minimum reading at the edge of the through hole and average the valves. (Figure 3) The average valve is then compared to the previously determined standard.
