1.Description
1.THIS INSTRUMENT PROVIDES A METHOD OF EVALUATING THE levelING PERFORMANCE OF NEWLY APPLIED COATINGS before CURING, THEREBY REDUCING OR ELIMINATING surface STREAKS CAUSED by brushing OR OTHER coatings. The evaluation of leveling performance with this specially designed applicator is similar to the evaluation of the roll-coating method, but more stable than roll-coating. Because there are various factors that affect the flow level and flow hang, the test of these properties should not be confused with each other. The leveling test is performed on a horizontal test plate. It is not a measure of the flow hang performance.
2.The leveling tester is a U-shaped applicator with a shallow gap on one side, in which a set of five pairs of equally spaced narrow V-shaped slots are cut. Their slot depths are varying from 100,200,300,500 and 1000μm, respectively. The two ends of the leveler are 120mm long, and 100mm drag film can be coated at a time.
3.Drag is performed according to the usual procedure on a horizontal test board or cardboard. It produces 5 pairs of coating marks with 10 different depths. After the coating film is dried, observe the distance between each pair of films, and select the minimum spacing (when the two stripes are close together, there is a gap in the middle that is indistinctely visible).
