Summary:
Pendulum hardness test is one of the international methods for hardness test in coating industry.It is designed according to GB/T 1730-93 and ISO 1522.According to the form of pendulum, it can be divided into double pendulum QBY type and single pendulum QHD type.
The two stainless steel balls on the pendulum hardness tester are supported on the dried coating and swing with a certain period. If the coating surface is softer, the pendulum amplitude attenuation of the pendulum is faster (shown in the pendulum amplitude attenuation from 6 to 3 swing time is shorter).On the contrary, the harder the coating surface is, the slower the amplitude attenuation will be.QHD pendulum damping tester is also called konig pendulum. Hardness is expressed by damping time, that is, the product of the number of swings of the pendulum at a specified Angle and the swing period.

Note: in order to obtain a reliable test data, the test should be carried out under the condition of controlled temperature and humidity without airflow influence, and the film thickness and substrate material can also affect the damping time.
