Overview
The X-ray fluorescence sulfur analyzer is a quantitative analysis instrument used in industries such as petroleum, coal, building materials, metallurgy, and mining, primarily for measuring the total sulfur (S) content in materials like petroleum and its products, coal, cement, and carbon black. Due to its use of a physical analysis method, it features fast analysis speed, no need for complex sample pretreatment, high precision, minimal human error, low labor intensity for operators, and no pollution, hence it has been widely applied and has essentially replaced chemical analysis methods.
The GA-1262 model Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) portable sulfur analyzer, also known as the GA-1262 EDXRF portable sulfur analyzer, is developed by our company based on decades of research experience in X-ray fluorescence analyzers. It is an improvement upon the GA-1260 model, which has already sold over a thousand units. Like the DM1260, it employs Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) analysis technology, a compact X-ray tube as the excitation source, a thin beryllium window gas-filled proportional counter, secondary filters, and a special optical path system. It features automatic C/H ratio correction, suitability for various samples, integration, large data storage capacity, and fast and accurate analysis.

The GA-1262 model EDXRF portable sulfur analyzer has been improved and launched to meet the on-site rapid detection and analysis of sulfur content in oil products and the 2019 version of GB/T17040. In addition to retaining the advantages of the original GA-1260, the following significant improvements have been made:
(1) A proportional counter with a lower background and thinner window has replaced the original proportional counter. The distances and angles between the radiation source, detector, and sample have been adjusted. The thickness of the secondary filter has also been adjusted.
(2) An adjustable X-ray source has replaced the fixed X-ray source, allowing for the adjustment of high voltage and current according to the measured content. The target material of the X-ray tube has also been changed.
(3) A newly designed digital multichannel pulse amplitude analyzer using FPGA, DSP, and other technologies has replaced the original simple multichannel pulse amplitude analyzer, reducing dead time, increasing the counting rate, and also reducing weight and volume.
(4) The X-ray tube and high voltage have been integrated, reducing weight and volume.
(5) A new large-scale integrated circuit CPU has replaced the original small-scale circuit, and surface-mount technology has replaced the original vertical circuit. Lithium-ion batteries have replaced the switch power supply.
Improvements (1), (2), and (3) have reduced the background and increased sensitivity, thereby significantly lowering the detection limit to 2.6ppm (300s), making this sulfur analyzer fully capable of meeting the PLOQ (combined quantification limit) requirement of 16ppm in the 2019 version of GB/T17040. It also complies with the relevant requirements of the national standard GB17411 and the American national standard ASTM D4294. Improvements (3), (4), and (5) have greatly reduced the weight and volume of the sulfur analyzer.
The GA-1262 model EDXRF portable sulfur analyzer is a portable instrument. It is compact and lightweight, weighing only about 5kg (including battery and printer), making it easy to carry and suitable for on-site rapid detection and analysis without the need for gas, vacuum, or dilution.

Calibration
The content is divided into three ranges: low (0-1000ppm), medium (0.1%-1%), and high (1%-4.6%). The instrument is calibrated within each range using five sulfur-containing samples with known content, resulting in working curves as shown in Figures 1, 2, and 3.

All working curves have a correlation coefficient γ greater than 0.999, indicating that the linear error of the DM1262 is extremely small.

Repeatability (r):
The same operator, in the same laboratory, using the same DM1262 under the same conditions to measure the same sample, obtained two test results as shown in Table 1
All test results have a reproducibility r that is less than the reproducibility r required by GB/T 17040, indicating that the DM1260 sulfur analyzer fully meets the reproducibility requirements of the 2019 version of GB/T 17040.
Repeatability (R):
Different operators, in different laboratories, using different DM1262 sulfur analyzers, measure the same sample, and the two test results obtained are shown in Table 2.
All test results have a repeatability R that is less than the repeatability R required by GB/T 17040, indicating that the DM1262 fully complies with the repeatability requirements of the 2019 version of GB/T 17040.
