1.Description
1. Emulsions and coatings for coatings and polymer dispersions for plastics are important components of polymer materials such as coatings and adhesives, and their film-forming properties directly affect the drying performance of the final product, so it is very necessary to know the minimum film-forming temperature.
2. The emulsion or dispersion material is evenly dispersed in the liquid medium (usually water) to form a dispersed system, in the drying process, due to the evaporation of the liquid can promote the interaction between the particles, so as to closely combine. If the temperature is not high enough for the polymer particles to polymerize, they will no longer stick together, resulting in intermittent opaque white lumps. If the temperature conditions are sufficient for the polymer particles to polymerize, then the particles coalesce and a continuous and uniform transparent film can be formed.
3. White point temperature: the boundary temperature when the opaque film is transformed into a transparent film.
4. Minimum film forming temperature: the minimum temperature for the formation of continuous and uniform transparent films without cracks (white point temperature is generally lower than the minimum film forming temperature of several degrees).

A wet film of emulsion or polymer dispersion with continuous and uniform thickness is coated on the temperature gradient plate, and the sample is dried by dry air flow. At the same time, the sample is evaporated by the temperature on the gradient plate to form a film. Because the temperature on the gradient plate is different, the position of the sample film formation is also different. Find the junction point between the continuous transparent film and the white opaque (unpolymerized) film. The corresponding temperature on the gradient plate can be obtained from the screen display, and the temperature is the MFT temperature of the sample.
